Plasma gastrin level in patients with liver cirrhosis, chronic renal failure and congestive heart failure.

Abstract
Several recent studies suggested that the kidney and liver are major site of clearance from the circulation and of metabolism of gastrin. To evaluate metabolism or degradation of serum gastrin, fasting serum gastrin level was estimated in the patients with liver cirrhosis, chronic renal failure and congestive heart failure.
Following results were obtained.
1. Fasting plasma gastrin concentration was 48.2+18.6 pg/ml in control, 59.6¡¾29.8 pg/ml in liver cirrhosis, 90.4+49.0 pg/ml in chronic renal failure and 81.7¡¾40.3 pg/" in congestive heart failure.
2. In liver cirrhosis, the coefficient of correlation of plasma value between gastrin and albumin was r=0.07, gastrin and A/G ratio r=-0.09, gastrin and SGOT r=0.32 and gastrin and SGPT r=0.14. Plasma gastrin had tendency to correlate with SGOT better than albumin and A/G ratio.
3. In chronic renal failure, the coefficient of correlation of plasma value between gastrin and creatinine was r=0.38 without significancy. But hypergastrinemic cases were observed much more in patients with serum creatinine greater than 3mg/dl.
